Manhigut Yehudit
The First 100 Days In Office

A
series.

Manhigut Yehudit's working plan for its first 100 days in government
By Moshe Feiglin in his new book, "The War of Dreams".
Originally written in October 2000.

Part 1
Preface

Manhigut Yehudit's goals are clear. But how will a government run with Manhigut Yehudit's ideology be different than the existing government? Time and again we have been asked this question. "Do you really think that you can make a change? You will be facing the same problems and in the end you will come up with the same solutions!" say the skeptics.

If all the leaders of the Right -- including Sharon -- failed, maybe there is no other option? Where does Manhigut Yehudit get the chutzpah to think that they have better answers than Begin, Shamir, Netanyahu and Sharon?

In truth, Judaism has no better answers than those given by the leaders of the Right until now. But Judaism has something completely different: It has better questions!

From the very birth of the state of Israel, leaders of both the Right and Left have been searching for the answer to the question, "How will we be accepted to the family of nations? How will we be a normal nation like all the other nations?"

When that is the question and the answer is our top priority goal, Oslo is the only solution for Zionism, whether the government is led by a person from the Left or from the Right.

When our goal is to be a nation just like the others, we cannot wipe out terror because that means admitting that there is no solution to the eternal conflict between Israel and the nations. Wiping out terror, in an ironic and paradoxical way, means the end of the Zionist dream to be accepted to the family of nations. This dream is shared by both the Left and the Right. That is why it makes no difference how patriotic the Right wing figure that we have elected to head the government is. It does not matter how many glorious battles he has fought for Israel and how much he has built the country. As long as he attempts to answer the question, "How can we be a normal nation like the others?" he is doomed to answer, "Oslo!"

So why does Manhigut Yehudit have a different answer? Because we have a different question. We are not more talented than Netanyahu, more heroic than Sharon, more stubborn than Shamir or more idealistic than Begin. We are simply working toward a totally different goal. When the strategic goal is different, the tactical solution is completely changed.
