Manhigut Yehudit
Manhigut Yehudit's working plan for its first 100 days in government Part 5 Fourth
Week: The
Foreign Ministry will be renamed “The Ministry of the Diaspora.” The
ministry will be charged with the responsibilities of the Jewish Agency. Its
main function will be to encourage aliyah (Jewish immigration) to Fifth
Week: The educational system will begin to operate according to the Hebrew calendar. The New Year is on the first of the Jewish month of Tishrei. The school year opens one month prior to the New Year, on the first of Elul, giving the students sufficient time to study about and prepare for the High Holiday season. Shifting the educational system to the Jewish calendar will move the entire country over to the Jewish calendar for the simple reason that most people plan their vacations, moves to new homes and jobs, etc. according to the school system’s vacations. In this way, the Jewish state’s heart will begin to beat according to the Jewish clock, as opposed to the non-Jewish clock that directs it now. Teachers will once again be afforded a respected place in society. In fact, teachers should be the most honored sector in Israeli society. Their salaries will be raised to reflect their esteemed position and will be linked to their participation in continuing education programs and the extra hours that they teach Jewish subjects. Funds to finance this salary raise will come from the funds that had been channeled to the Palestinian Authority. Sixth Week: The defense budget will be slashed by a third. All of the cumbersome equipment that had been used to protect soldiers from making contact with the enemy -- in contradiction to the fundamental essence of the army -- will be destroyed in a mandatory ceremony on every army base. This equipment includes tear gas grenades, rubber bullets, batons, riot dispersion vehicles and the like. Electric fences and protective walls will be dismantled. The Israeli army will base its defensive policy on assertive and tough offense. Army commanders responsible for
abandoning soldiers in the battle field (at Joseph’s Tomb, The reserve army will be substantially downscaled and will be comprised of professional forces: computer specialists, doctors, engineers, drivers, etc. Reserve duty will be non-mandatory, and the reservists will be amply compensated for their service. Combat forces will be from the standing army exclusively.
