| Pesach 5767 |
The holiday of Passover will be starting this Monday, the 14th of Nissan (April 2) at sundown, and will last for seven days. On Passover, the Jewish People celebrates its redemption from the bondage of Egypt, and its first steps toward full national and spiritual redemption. Manhigut Yehudit's offices will be closed throughout the week of Passover, from the 14th of Nissan (April 2) until the 23rd of Nissan, (April 10). We wish all of our readers and supporters a joyous, meaningful and kosher Passover. May it be a festival of true redemption for each individual, for the nation of Israel and for the entire world!

| Is the Religious Public Ready to Lead? |
|
by Moshe Feiglin
My instinctive answer to the above question is "No." Only a G-d fearing, Torah observant Jew can be worthy and capable of leading Israel. But the religious public does not accept responsibility. Instead, it prefers to see itself as a separate sector, dependant on the national leadership of others.
What is the problem with the religious public? Why did it take so long for a movement like Manhigut Yehudit to be established? And why is it that even after Manhigut Yehudit has been established, it still lacks the support of the entire religious public (or at least the entire "Religious Zionist" public)?
It seems that theory and practice do not always go hand in hand. The religious public has become accustomed to certain rituals. A religious Jew will literally sacrifice his life to fulfill the commandment to circumcise his son. After all, the punishment for non-observance of that particular commandment is eternal excommunication from the Jewish People. But he will completely ignore another commandment that carries the same punishment; the commandment to bring a sacrifice at the Temple on the holiday of Passover.
The fact that an Israeli policeman stands at the entrance to the Temple Mount and prevents Jews from bringing their Passover sacrifices to the Temple is very convenient for the religious public. Does anybody really want to push his way through a throng of people to reach the entrance to the Temple Mount, to slaughter a lamb and afterwards to celebrate the traditional Passover feast on a sidewalk in Jerusalem?
The State does not prevent Jews from observing commandments. It simply provides the religious public with an excuse to avoid them. Many Jews fulfill the commandments because they are used to them, or because it is the socially acceptable thing to do. G-d's will is not always in the equation.
The religious have not yet taken responsibility for the State. For some, the State is a negative reality that has been forced upon us. According to their thinking, we must separate ourselves from the State and just try to manage until it disintegrates and is replaced by the Mashiach. According to this approach, there is no reason to take responsibility and lead Israel.
The real questions begin, though, with those Jews who rightfully perceive the redemptive dimension so potently expressed by Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel. Why don't the Religious Zionists take responsibility to lead? Why don't they respond to the leadership imperative?
The answer is the same as the Passover sacrifice. The Religious Zionists also live the ritual more than the essence. We have gotten used to the Zionist/Secular leadership, we are comfortable with it, our institutions have learned how to manage with it, people make their livelihood from it, too many personal careers are built on it, and so on.
But there is something deeper than simple comfort and inertia. The religious public really does not want to lead. Years of sectoral self-perception have depressed the National Religious leadership consciousness. The desire to lead is considered arrogant and prideful. Shouldering responsibility is not considered courageous.
That is how the National Religious public can organize huge demonstrations, while desperately searching for non-observant speakers willing to honor it with their presence on the stage. That is also how a symposium on belief-based leadership held by Arutz 7 did not include any speakers from Manhigut Yehudit. This is a prime example of the fear-to-lead phenomenon. We understand that the National Religious camp must lead, we talk about belief-based leadership, but ultimately stay far away from the very people who are making it a reality.
Manhigut Yehudit is developing the will to lead. Thank G-d, the National Religious youth have thoroughly integrated the leadership message. We are progressing by leaps and bounds, and the consciousness in the National Religious and even the Ultra-Orthodox youth is wide open to leadership. Ultimately, with G-d's help, we will succeed! | |
| A Jewish State or No State: By Moshe Feiglin |
|
Translated from Ma'ariv's NRG website.
(March 21)
Tell me something. After you pass on at a ripe old age to the world of pure goodness, how would you like to be buried? According to a study carried out by the Gutman Institute, approximately 70% of Israel's Jewish population cites the importance of being buried in a Jewish manner. It can be safely assumed that of the 30% that remain, many do not attach much importance to the religious ceremony and associated prayers, but are nevertheless interested in a burial with Jewish orientation.
It seems that over 80% of Israel's Jews would like to find themselves after their 120 mortal years in a "pose" more or less like that of the rest of their fellow Jews. That is strange, because the man that has had the most influence on the State of Israel's character in the last decade and the most power to determine the norms of Israeli society, has recently declared that he would like to be cremated after his death.
Personally, I have no problem with that. Former Chief Justice Aharon Barak can instruct his family to do whatever he wishes with his body. Every person lives by his faith -- and dies by it. But isn't the man with the most power to fashion Israeli society supposed to more or less represent the values of that society? The values that Barak represented in the decade that he imposed his judicial revolution were defined by him as the values of "enlightened man." And who is this exemplary "enlightened man?" If the burial test is any indication, the "enlightened man" after whom Israeli society is supposed to fashion itself is Aharon Barak himself -- and a small elite that ceaselessly attempts to detach the State of Israel from its Jewish roots.
This week, we learned that the first Arab minister in Israel, Raleb Majdalah, refuses to sing Israel's national anthem, "Hatikvah." In the US, that would make Majdalah a criminal. US law mandates that the national anthem be sung at the opening of large events. It makes no difference if the people at the event are American Jews, Arabs or Italians. But Jewish nationality is not like American nationality. Jewish nationality is not based on residence, but rather on an entire culture founded on ethnic identity, religious identification and of course, on the Land of Israel. Consequently, being an Arab in the Jewish State is problematic.
Thank G-d for Majdalah. If he didn't exist, we would have had to invent him. Majdalah does not buy the Israeli "enlightenment." He has the courage to look us in the eye and say, "You can deceive yourselves, but you cannot deceive me. I am not an Israeli. I am an Arab. You are not Israelis either. You are Jews. And don't expect me to lie to myself and to identify with your State and your Jewish symbols." What Majdalah is essentially saying is that Israel is the state of the Jews and not the state of the Arabs. "You want enlightenment?" Majdalah challenges us. "No problem. Change your national anthem, surrender the Jewish elements in the Israeli flag and please find a better use for the Temple Menorah that you have adopted as the State emblem."
Actually, for a long time, the radical Left has been demanding to change the State's symbols to make them applicable to all the State's citizens. It is a legitimate demand. One cannot claim to be liberal and enlightened and simultaneously force Jewish symbols on other religions and nationalities. The problem with the demand is not its legitimacy. It is the quiet tyranny with which it is enforced.
There is no problem with Aharon Barak's desire to be buried in a non-Jewish ceremony. The problem is that a small minority of elites are industriously erasing Israel's Jewish identity -- even though nobody has elected them to do so. The result is the general collapse that we are all enduring. If Israel is not a Jewish State, Majdalah may feel more comfortable, but the Jews will have no state at all.

A nationwide 60-day call-in to the White House campaign has begun and will continue through the Holiday of Pesach / Passover, the Holiday of Freedom, to call the attention of President George W. Bush to the continued unfair incarceration of Jonathan Pollard.
Organizers of the campaign remind the community that the White House counts and tallies all in-coming calls, so every single phone call makes a difference. The White House phone number is 1-202-456-1111. Callers are asked to call daily between the hours of 11-2 pm EST and to encourage their family members and friends to do the same. Callers are reminded to expect the lines to be busy and to keep calling until they get through.

Moshe Feiglin was guest on Toronto's popular "The Zelda Show" two weeks ago. The following is Zelda Young's synopsis of her interview with Moshe:
Our conversation led us into many directions. I wanted to have Moshe Feiglin reveal who he was and what his party stood for. I feel he was totally honest and above board.
The questions ranged from the mission statement of Manhigut Yehudit and his own agenda.
Mr. Feiglin wants Israel to be what God intended it to be; a Jewish state with Jewish values. 30% of his party members are from the secular community and he has no intention of placing restrictions on any Israeli citizens...Freedom of choice and speech reign supreme.
Moshe feels that the Jewish State is no longer Jewish but totally secular in its desire to assimilate and be an Israeli state instead of one with Jewish values.
I asked Moshe about Jonathan Pollard and why Israel was not putting more pressure on the Bush administration to release him. He responded that because Jonathan is not an Israeli but a Jew the support is not forthcoming...I am totally amazed and confused. Are not Israelis Jews and we as Jews care and support our beloved State of Israel? President Bush, I am sure, is tired of this situation and if Prime Minister Olmert exerted pressure on the administration it is a good possibility Jonathan would be released. Jonathan Pollard saved both Israel and the world when he released his findings about the Iraqi nuclear site as an ally of both Israel and the U.S. He is sick and not getting his medication and may, G-d forbid, die in prison if pressure is not brought to bear by the Israeli government.
Mr. Feiglin wants Israel to be the Jewish state it was intended to be with Jewish values and pride in being a Jew. We have become a ship without a rudder being navigated by people who want Israel to be a secular State like any other and not a Jewish state.
We are Jews and we are not like any one else;no matter how hard we try to pretend, we are not. Therefore, we must maintain our individuality and uniqueness and support the Moshe Feiglins to bring about positive change in Israel.
I found Mr. Feiglin to be honest and forthright and he inspired me to continue my work to bring truth to the Jewish and non Jewish world in my own small way.
Wake up to the realities of what is going on now. We are being pursued with a vengeance to give up what God gave us. We have a right to the land of Israel, to Jerusalem and to our Jewish values. I am today and have always been proud to be a Jew. |

Moshe Feiglin and Shmuel Sackett, founders of Manhigut Yehudit, have spoken to the mayor of the Shomron town of Immanuel who has described tragic stories of poverty in his town. It must be noted that Immanuel experienced two devastating acts of terror in recent years and the settlement has still not recovered. About 450 families in the settlement live well below the poverty line. It is almost impossible for them to provide their families with matzah, wine, fish, chicken, dairy products and other Pesach necessities.
Manhigut Yehudit has taken upon itself to raise money for the residents of this town and other needy fellow Jews in Yehudah, Shomron and those Jews in Israel's north and south who have found themselves on the "front line". Last year, many of you responded quickly and generously and we raised $10,000. Every single penny of that money was given to buy food for Pesach for needy families in this town.
This year as well, all money - 100% - will be given DIRECTLY to needy families. No commissions will be taken. No salaries. No administrative costs. No expenses. EVERY dollar will be given to help the Jews of Immanuel, Yehudah, Shomron, north and south for Pesach. Since Pesach is right around the corner, please click here and donate via our secure server.
All donations are 100% tax deductible in the USA. Receipts will be mailed after Pesach.

No leaven [shall be present] in any offering of G-d (Leviticus 2:11)
Leaven, which is dough that has fermented and risen, represents self-inflation and pride, and there is nothing more abhorrent to G-d. In the words of the Talmud, "G-d says of the prideful one, 'He and I cannot dwell together in the world.'"
