Actualizing Freedom

Temple gloryThe Passover holiday has given us a breath of fresh air, highlighting some of the places in Israel where freedom is sprouting and others where freedom is smothered. First of all, Israel's captive in the US, Jonathan Pollard, continues to fester in prison because the State of Israel prefers to perpetuate his plight. That is a place where freedom is still smothered.

On Thursday, the 17th of Nissan Manhigut Yehudit members and other fellow Jews once again went up to the Temple Mount. The fact that it was Passover added a festive yet painful dimension to our ascent. On the one hand, we, a large group of Jews, had the merit to stand on the Temple Mount and envision just how the Temple would look with the Priests and Levites bustling about the sanctuary and courtyards on a warm Passover morning. On the other hand, though, more Moslem "guards" than over watched over our every movement to make sure that no Jew would dare pray or even quietly sway at Judaism's most sacred site.

"We are here to serve you, so please abide by our orders," the Jewish policeman at the entrance requested. It was obvious that he felt very uncomfortable with his orders to prevent us from praying. But after all, a policeman is a policeman, and his job is to preserve "law and order." When the police see throngs of Arabs and mosques on the Temple Mount and only a handful of Jews, they see the Jews as the threat to "law and order." But what if thousands of Jews would ascend the Temple Mount? If the Jews were the majority on the Mount, the policemen would still be there to preserve "law and order." But they would be doing it for the Jews. In other words, the police are not at fault. We are. We can actualize our freedom if we are determined to do so.

From the Temple Mount we hurried to Hebron, where tens of thousands of Jews had come to pray at the burial place of our Patriarchs. (If even a quarter of those Jews had started their day at the Temple Mount, the freedom quotient in Israel would be significantly improved.) Manhigut Yehudit's Educational Director Dovid Shirel had prepared a Manhigut Yehudit information center just opposite the Cave of Machpelah, in the thick of the crowds.

It was hot. Loudspeakers blasted from all directions and tens of thousands of Jews surrounded us. For six hours, Manhigut's staff; Dovid Shirel, Aryeh Sonnenberg, Efraim Moncharsh, Nitza Kahane, Ronit Sharki, Michael Fuah and myself worked to get Manhigut Yehudit's message out to the crowd. Some people wanted to be on our email list, many others signed up for the Likud, some came just to shake hands or take pamphlets, while others came to argue. But at the end of a most tiring day, we felt wonderfully exhausted. It wasn't only because of the large pile of new membership forms for the Likud. It was because almost nobody who was in Hebron on Thursday came away without hearing about Manhigut Yehudit. Thirty thousand people saw us, and understood that Manhigut Yehudit is busily at work for the Nation of Israel.

A tremendous yashar koach (salute) to our dedicated staff. I honestly don't know if there is any other movement with such serious and devoted members. These are the people helping the Nation of Israel to actualize its freedom.

Another Freedom Fighter

miriam adler
Miriam Adler is an almost anonymous freedom fighter. A young mother of six, Miriam and her husband Yaron were instrumental in renewing the North Shomron settlement of Sa Nur before it was destroyed in the Expulsion. Miriam and her husband have paid a steep price for their dedication to the Nation of Israel. Prior to the Expulsion, the couple was placed under house arrest outside the Northern Shomron. Miriam was subsequently brutally arrested and then Kafkaesquely charged with attacking three of the six unidentified brutes that came to arrest her in the middle of the night.

In Miriam's words: "Six policemen without uniforms or any police identification burst into my parents' home (where the Adlers were staying after being expelled from Sa Nur). They pushed and hit us, breaking my father's glasses and bruising my mother, who has a heart condition.

In the police station, the humiliating treatment continued. Nobody removed the handcuffs from my hands, they did not allow me to replace the head covering that had been torn off my head and did not allow me to be examined by a doctor despite the fact that I was in pain and demanded a medical examination. While I stood there, I saw how the bullies who had attacked me were filling out their arrest reports and coordinating their testimony.

I filed a complaint with the Police Investigation Department of the Justice Ministry. The file was closed after 48 hours with the explanation that it was of "no public interest." The bullies that beat me were never investigated. Nobody even bothered to answer my lawyer's appeal to the Justice Ministry. On the other hand, I was charged with attacking three of the policemen! As far as I am concerned, this trial is the epitome of injustice and immorality."

Miriam, who ultimately refused to recognize the authority of the court, was convicted of attacking the three brutes. On the 20th of Sivan (June 6th) the court will reconvene to determine her sentence.( 8:30 a.m. at the Russian Compound in Jerusalem). The entire trial is completely insignificant, because Miriam is out of the game. She has left the system to play with itself. But the example that she sets for the public is extremely important. Please come to identify with Miriam and breathe the atmosphere of freedom that she has actualized and radiates. Save the date!

Israel's Message of Freedom: By Moshe Feiglin

Translated from Israel's Makor Rishon newspaper.

13 Nissan, 5767
(April 1)

redemptionFreedom means taking responsibility for your fate. Slavery means depositing your fate in the hands of others. In other words, the more that other people control your fate, the less freedom you enjoy. In order to be free, you must allow as few people or systems as possible to run your life. The ultimate free person is he who is controlled by no one -- especially not himself. Dictators -- those humans who have transformed themselves into gods -- are actually the most enslaved people on earth.

The truly free person is he who is committed only to G-d. It is not easy for us to know what G-d wants from us. Each of us has the privilege and the obligation to try to reach that understanding and to draw his conclusions without coercion. But the principle remains: The truly free person is he who believes in G-d.

The greatest slavery mechanisms in human history were created by radical Leftist ideologies that negated the existence of G-d and thus denied the sanctity of life. Stalin's Communism murdered more people than Hitler's National Socialism. Mao's Communism murdered more people than the sum of all the victims of both World Wars combined. The murderousness of the Communist party in China continues until this very day. In fact, most of humanity, including those people who live in democratic countries -- are still enslaved. Some live in iron cages while others live in golden cages, but the lesson learned from the redemption from Egypt is still waiting to be actualized.

Does the Nation of Israel, the nation that suffered slavery to humans in Egypt and made the difficult transition to exclusive service of G-d have a message of freedom for the billions of modern day slaves? Israel has the key to true freedom -- the service of no one or nothing but G-d. That message though, is currently buried under layers of self-deception. To illuminate the world with its message of freedom, Israel must transform itself into a free country.

What is a free country? If we follow the definition of freedom above, a free country is a country in which most of the authority is in the hands of the citizens, who have true freedom of choice. In today's Israel, the citizen has no influence over any of the country's power centers. Yes, he can vote for the parliament, but his vote has no significance. The fate of the country is not determined in the parliament, but by the media, the State Prosecution and other power hubs that all work together. None of these mechanisms are elected by the public or profoundly affected by its criticism.

In the authentically free Jewish state, the citizen is responsible for his fate. He elects his leaders and representatives to the parliament in direct district elections. In the district-election method, every citizen becomes a party "central committee member," whose opinion is important to his elected representative.

In the free Jewish state, the citizen has a wide range of media options. Today, he can only choose between Leftist broadcasts, because any non-Leftist broadcasting stations are immediately made illegal.

In the free Jewish state, the nation chooses its judges. Candidates for the judicial seats must first have a public hearing. Their stand on the Jewish identity of the state, the definition of family, the release of terrorists, the expulsion of Jews from their homes and more will be public knowledge before the voting begins.

In the free Jewish state, parents decide how their children will be educated and will be able to choose from various educational approaches.

In the free Jewish state, national land belongs to the Nation of Israel -- to all the Jews. Every new Jewish family will be entitled to a lot of land somewhere in the entire Land of Israel. Those who claim that this is impossible can just look to see what is happening in Wadi Ara, where the State of Israel is effectively giving its land to every new Arab family.

In the free Jewish state, loyalty is the national behavioral code. Captives are not abandoned, Pollard is not abandoned and allies such as the Southern Lebanese Army are not abandoned.

In the free Jewish state, there is no compromise with evil. Evil is fought, giving the citizens the security they deserve and liberating them from "protective" walls and fences.

When the State of Israel is freed of its built-in bondage, when we return to ourselves and establish the authentically free Jewish state, the Jewish message of freedom born of exclusive service of G-d will illuminate the world.

Making a Difference in the World

writer
Moshe Feiglin has recently written a number of articles and commentaries on the human organ/death machine in China. The following is a response from one of our readers, translated from Hebrew:

Shalom Moshe,

I read your article on the source of the Chinese human organs in the newspaper and was very moved. A year ago, I had to make a decision about where to go to receive a new kidney. Initially, I considered going to China. When I learned the true and horrific story of the source of the Chinese organs, though, I chose to have the transplant elsewhere, despite the fact that it was double the cost. I have met other organ recipients who returned from China with deep regrets after they discovered the source of their transplanted organ. May G-d bless you. Finally, there is a believing leader that is willing to publicly air an ethical topic that politicians, health fund managers and insurance agencies are trying to hide.

May G-d give you strength to continue your important efforts for our nation, our land and our Torah.

The Power of Silence

forestAnd Nadav and Avihu, the sons of Aaron, took each of them his censer, And a fire went out from G-d and consumed them, And Aaron was silent.

(Leviticus 10:1-3)

The power to be silent at certain moments of life and of history is an important strength. It expresses the awareness that G-d is infinite, and cannot be encapsulated in our human conceptions of what should take place.
