Bring the Expatriates Home |
By Moshe Feiglin Tevet, 5768 Dec., '07
Israel's Ministry of Absorption has recently announced a new project in honor of Israel's 60th anniversary -- bringing its expatriates home. Personally, I am very moved by the idea. I still remember how Rabin called the "yordim," literally, those people who descend from (leave) Israel "cowardly weaklings." By the way, Rabin's son lives in New York, as do Olmert's sons and quite a few other famous members of Israel's "high society."
The expatriates, as it turns out, are not "cowardly weaklings." They are part of more than one million Israeli citizens who have emigrated from Israel in the last sixty years. It is easy to understand those who left. For sixty years, the State of Israel has given people a lot of good reasons to abandon ship. Today it is supplying even better reasons. After the left-wing brainwashing to which most Israelis are constantly exposed at school and in the media, it is hard for many to explain what they are doing here, in the first place.
There are one million Israelis in the Diaspora whose souls are here, despite all of Israel's flaws and insanity. They know that Israel is much greater than the sum of its parts. The State of Israel is now mature enough to admit that we need them as much as they need us. And on its 60th birthday, it lovingly beckons them to return, enticing them with perks and making the rules more flexible, saying to them, "Brothers, we want you here. This is your home. Let's turn over a new leaf."
After we have encouraged all sorts of non-Jews to immigrate to Israel, after we have brought alcohol, churches and neo-Nazis to our cities in the guise of aliyah, we have discovered that the diamond is buried in our own back yard. The Israeli expatriates already know the language, have relatives and friends here and can quickly be absorbed into the county, becoming part of the return of the Nation of Israel to an active role in history.
In the Diaspora, the Jews are dwindling away. If the current rate of assimilation continues, the Jewish population outside of Israel will decrease by 80% over the next fifty years. And that does not take physical attacks against Jews into account. In a year or two, the majority of the world's Jews will be in Israel. It may not make the morning headlines, but the Diaspora is waning and the Nation of Israel is returning home.
I don't think that France or England would try so hard to bring their expatriates home. But the Nation of Israel is motivated by a historical destiny that pushes us forward, even though we do not exactly understand why or to where. This process is larger than life, and we are the stars of the drama. Bringing the expatriates home reveals the uniqueness of the state of the Jews. It gives me one more good reason to be proud of my country.

Democratically Elected Ministers |
Manhigut Yehudit is actively involved in drafting signatures to convene the Likud Central Committee. The Committee will vote on a proposal that will bar the chairman of the Likud from choosing ministers at his own discretion and assure that they will be elected by the Central Committee instead. Over the past number of years, the Likud Central Committee has slowly but surely been sidelined; first by former PM Sharon, who brazenly ignored the Committee's democratic decisions, and now by Binyamin Netanyahu, who has consistently acted to drain the Central Committee of its power. The fact that the Likud chairman can currently choose ministers independently allows Netanyahu to reward his cronies with important positions and to toe the Left line whenever he is pressured to do so.
We must remember that the majority of Jews in Israel lean to the Right. The Likud is the only major party that democratically represents this broad spectrum of Israelis. That is why it often wins general elections. The Left, though, has found the way to circumvent the will of the majority. By de-legitimizing the Likud Central Committee, it has isolated the Likud leaders, making them (willingly) vulnerable to its concentrated pressure tactics.
The proposed legislation will prevent Netanyahu from appointing ministers according to leftist directives (he has already proposed making Ehud Barak his Defense Minister) and from amassing power by handing out jobs to his cronies. It will restore the decision making process to the democratically elected representatives of the Likud members, empower the Jewish majority and help to focus the voters on the issues -- and not on the jobs.
Manhigut Yehudit needs your help now more than ever. You can also help create the Jewish majority revolution. Now is the time to support Manhigut Yehudit. | The Quiet Revolution: By Moshe Feiglin |
|
This article is excerpted from Moshe Feiglin's book, "The War of Dreams." It was written after the Likud Central Committee voted unanimously against Ariel Sharon's proposal to establish a Palestinian state.
2 Sivan, 5762 May 13, 2002
Last night's Likud Central Committee vote against a Palestinian state was not a victory for Netanyahu, and obviously not for Sharon. In the most fundamental way -- they both lost. The real winner was the Jewish majority. The seeds that Manhigut Yehudit began to plant in the consciousness of the belief-based public six years ago have now developed into tender saplings.
Looking at the entire picture with a deeper and more comprehensive eye, it is clear that Netanyahu's victory yesterday was no more than a triumph for his ego. Netanyahu had no choice but to drag his feet into the proceedings that Manhigut Yehudit and Land of Israel faithful in the Likud had initiated. He could not have contradicted the rightist line that he had adopted in hundreds of recent media interviews.
The winner yesterday was the Nation of Israel, that reasserted its loyalty to its Land and values and proved that it has the tools and will to fight for what its principles. Neither Netanyahu nor Sharon is synchronized with the fundamental goals of the Nation of Israel. Consequently, the process of Israel's return to itself will necessarily bring about their downfall.
The Likud is the microcosm of the Nation of Israel. It is the home of the traditional Israeli who does not deny his identity and who loves his homeland. It is the home of the middle class, which caries the country's social and economic yoke on its shoulders. It is the home of Jews of all origins, both observant and non-observant, and everybody else in between. The Likud is the home of the Nation of Israel.
Last night's victory expresses itself on two planes:
First and most immediate is the tactical achievement: blocking the Palestinian state. Clearly, when a battle is carried out on the proper arena, it is possible to block processes that seem irreversible -- and to return the Palestinian state genie back to the bottle. After the Central Committee vote, we see that the proper ideological analysis -- the understanding of the need for Jewish leadership for Israel -- necessarily paves the way for the National Camp to lead the State. That is what happened when Manhigut Yehudit -- although certainly lacking political experience -- nevertheless arrived at the proper tactical solution.
But the victory of the Nation of Israel is much deeper than just the tactical problem that was created for Ariel Sharon yesterday as he attempts to establish a Palestinian state. For the first time since Camp David, the ideological battlefield -- the battlefield on which the future of the Nation of Israel and the Land of Israel is being fought -- moved from the sidelines to center stage. Two or three weeks ago, it seemed that the Palestinian state was a done deal. Voices opposing it were heard, if at all, only from Israel's rightist and religious margins. Nobody paid any attention to them and they simply melted away. Now it has become clear that not only has the struggle not melted away, but it has broken out with tremendous energy. Where? In the very center of the political map -- in the very heart of Israel's ruling party.
That is much more than a tactical victory. It is a quiet revolution -- a strategic revolution.
Now it is clear to all that Manhigut Yehudit's basic assumptions are correct. Yesterday, President Bush could not have cared less about the leader of "The National Union," the former Minister of Tourism, the leader of Moledet or the leader of the NRP. The person who interested President Bush last night was Likud Central Committee member Uzi Cohen from Ra'anana. He interested Bush for one simple reason: As opposed to the others, he is playing on the true arena -- the arena of national leadership. Consequently, the actions he takes on the arena are relevant to reality.
And now let us make a small calculation. If we managed to influence events and push our own agenda inside the Likud now, just think what we will be able to do when hundreds of Likud Central Committee members will be Manhigut people. Just think what we will be able to accomplish when many of Manhigut's people will be Likud MKs and -- with G-d's help -- when Manhigut Yehudit's candidate will head the National Camp's ruling party.

Torah Sparks |
The 60 years that have passed since the State of Israel was established can be classified according to the timeline provided by the books of the Bible. Israel's War of Independence, the expulsion of much of the hostile population from Israel, and initial settlement of the Land parallels the Book of Joshua. Becoming established in the Land and preoccupation with mundane worries, burn-out, loss of will to continue to inherit the Land, surrender of parts of the Land of Israel -- including Jerusalem, allowing a vast amount of the enemy's civilian population to remain in the Land and providing for them can all be classified as the Book of Judges. Just like in the Book of Judges, we are also dealing with war, terror and a constant problem of idol worship. With G-d's help, we will quickly proceed to the Book of Samuel, and unite the nation around its original Jewish destiny and authentic Jewish leadership.
