Tu B'Shvat (Jan 22)  The holiday of planting new fruit trees in Israel, is coming!

But this year is "Shmittah" (Sabbatical year) in Israel.

According to the Torah, all tree plantings are strictly forbidden.

So what's going to happen this year on
Tu B'Shevat???

We Have the Solution!!!

grapes

This Tu B'Shvat you can continue to support and strengthen the Land of Israel!

In keeping 100% within the strict guidelines of Halacha (Jewish law) - we have set up a unique way to "plant" trees this Tu B'Shvat. Please read, get involved and pass this email to your friends. Tu B'Shvat is coming VERY soon!

1) In keeping with the custom of Tu B'Shvat:
Order and pay for your new fruit trees now. (Before Jan. 22)

2) All money that is collected will be given NOW to Israeli farmers who live in Yehuda and Shomron (Judea and Samaria) and who keep the Shmittah laws. This money will be a great help to them since they are not engaged in any form of commerce this entire year. (Imagine if you had no salary for a whole year!!!)

3) The actual new fruit trees will be planted after Rosh Hashanah (Oct 2nd) - when it is permissible to do so. All orders received now will be FIRST IN LINE to be planted when the Shmittah ends.

4)  A personalized, full-color certificate will be mailed to you listing the date - after Rosh Hashanah - when your trees will be planted. This certificate will be mailed to you NOW.

In summary:
Order & pay for the trees now, have them placed on "reserve", get the money to the farmers now (who desperately need it), plant after Rosh Hashanah and get a beautiful personalized certificate suitable for framing!

In this unique way you have:

· kept the Mitzvah of Tu B'Shvat
· planted new fruit trees in Israel
· and have a share with your brothers in the special Mitzvah of
Shmittah.

Bush is Not the Problem

Bush"What are you doing about Bush's trip here?" the young man asked me as he emerged from the cave. For me, it was a surprising question. Or rather, the source of the question surprised me.

I had just arrived at Homesh to do guard duty and help the young pioneers who have tenaciously maintained a Jewish presence in the settlement destroyed by Israel three summers ago. These young people are the absolute cream of the idealistic crop. Every time that the army comes to expel them, it also destroys everything that it can get its hands on. The only place left for them to take shelter is in the caves in the area. They even have to hide their cooking utensils in holes in the ground so that the army will not steal them. And now, in the rain, cold and mud atop Homesh, one of these smiley, brave "cave dwellers," his sidelocks peeking out from under the colorful scarves wrapping his face to keep him warm, asks me about Bush's visit.

I am the one who just came from "civilization" -- from a warm house and hourly news reports to re-program my brain. I am the one who should be confused and think that Bush's visit to Israel will lead to fateful events and decisions. I am the one who should have surrendered to the rightist ritual that has not changed since the days of Kissinger's visit to Israel; the ritual that blames "American pressure" for all of Israel's capitulations and that organizes protests every time an American V.I.P. comes for a few days.

"Nothing," I answered the smiling pile of scarves. "We are not doing anything about Bush's visit. Bush is not the problem. The problem -- all of it -- is here in Israel."

Why does Israel Give In to the Americans?

In truth, Israel does not give in to the Americans. It encourages their pressure. Sometimes, we really lean on them to "force" us. The most blatant and repulsive expression of this mental illness recently came from "Ha'aretz" editor David Landau, who called upon the U.S. to "rape" Israel.

The entire Oslo process was initiated against the will of the U.S. Israel had to mend fences with the American administration after it found out about the peace talks. In last year's Lebanon War, America expected Israel to triumph. The U.S. administration gave Olmert its complete support. The pressure not to defeat the enemy was mostly internal. America does not love Israel, but it does not hate us, either. Primarily, it has political interests that dictate its policies. A strong, independent and proud Israel creates an American interest to stand by its side. A weak, dependent and servile Israel creates the opposite interest.

Why does Israel invite U.S. pressure? Modern Israeli elite culture was born of the dream that negated the Biblical description of Israel as a unique nation with a unique mission.  Israel needs pressure from the US so that it can perpetuate the deception that we are just another ordinary nation, a standard member of the family of nations involved in a standard territorial struggle. As long as America is breathing down our national back, our ordinary nation status is clear for all to see and we can still safely claim that we are part of the "family of nations."

Pollard and the Americans

Pollard demoThe most extreme example of the anomalous nature of Israel/U.S. relations is Israel's great betrayal of its captured agent, Jonathan Pollard. It took Pollard's wife, Esther, years to understand that there was no reason for her to live in the small room near the U.S. prison in which her husband is incarcerated. Esther eventually understood that the forces keeping Jonathan in jail are here in Israel.

Pollard gave Israel information vital to its survival -- information that the U.S. had officially agreed to supply to Israel, but did not. Jonathan Pollard is the Jew who saved the Israelis from the Americans. His actions held an impossible mirror in front of the Israeli identity crisis, and official Israel will not forgive him for that.

Pollard's sentence and the abuse that he has faced are disproportional to the crime that he committed. (The average sentence for providing intelligence to a friendly country is three years of prison). The abuse of Pollard that began with a lot of pent --up Anti-Semitism continues today only because of Israel. Even the former head of the CIA has already said that Pollard should be released.
But Israel's establishment does not want Jonathan Pollard's release. It is waiting impatiently for his death. It has never even made an official request to release him.

Israel does not want to be Jewish. It wants to be "Israeli." It will not request of America to release Pollard the Jew, (even though it immediately acted to gain the release of Aviem Selah, the Israeli officer who was detained along with Pollard). On the contrary. Take the Jew and do what you want with him. We have nothing to do with him. We are just ordinary Israelis -- nothing more.

The American Aid Myth: By Moshe Feiglin

3 Sivan, 5761
May 25, 2001

unnecessaryBut what will you do about American pressure? What will you do when they stop allocating funds to Israel? What will you do when they send NATO bombers like they did in Bosnia? What will you do about the whole world? What will you do?

Every time that an attempt is made to establish an alternative to the conditioned Israeli thought pattern, every time that somebody suggests an approach that veers from the accepted leftist track, the decisive ammunition is pulled out of the arsenal of claims: "The Americans won't let us."
After that claim, it is no longer possible to debate. The underlying assumption is that we are small and completely dependant on the American superpower and cannot implement any policies not approved by our patrons.

That is the way it seems. There is no comparison between the military and economic strength of the rings of enemies that surround Israel -- supported by the U.S. -- and our own capabilities.

Let us analyze the economic and military aspects of this theory.

The basic claim is that without American aid, Israel will not be able to exist. But if we check the numbers and history of American aid, we receive a completely different picture.

American aid, in its various forms, currently amounts to about 3.5 percent (yes, only 3.5 percent!) of Israel's annual budget. About half of that aid is military. Parallel to the military aid to Israel, the U.S. is supplying modern weapons to Israel's largest and most threatening potential enemy -- the Egyptian army. The Egyptian army has no enemies on its borders -- except for Israel. Sudan and Libya do not endanger Egypt in any way, and it is clear that the powerful army that Egypt is building is directed only against Israel.

There is no doubt that it would be worth Israel's while to forgo U.S. military "aid" if the United States would  simultaneously halt its arms shipments to the Egyptians. Everybody would gain, except for the American weapons industry. The U.S. would save billions of dollars that it is currently pouring into both sides and war between Israel and Egypt would be postponed.

There is a famous saying that the gun that appears in the first act, will shoot in the third act. In a cynical move to benefit its armaments industry and to create a situation in which both sides are dependant on American weapons, the U.S. has introduced millions of sophisticated guns in the first act. It is reasonable to assume that these guns will shoot as early as the second act. In this way, America promotes the next military conflict between Egypt and Israel, in the guise of military aid. ***Since this article was written over six years ago, Egypt has found a more efficient way to fight Israel. It simply sends vast amounts of missiles and explosives to the Hamas in Gaza. Syria supplies the Hizbollah with missiles on our northern border, Egypt supplies the Hamas with missiles on our southern border, and Israel's government supplies its citizens with a pamphlet with instructions on how to respond to an all-out missile attack.***

That being the case, it is clear that the entire entity called "American aid" can be reduced to that part designated as civilian aid. The framework of this article does not allow us to prove that even the civilian aid is nothing but fiction. But clearly, the State of Israel, with the GNP of a modern country, can easily do without aid that amounts to just one and one half percent of its budget -- aid for which Israel essentially surrenders its independence.

It is no less interesting to check the history of American aid to Israel:
Israel was not always an economic and military superpower in the Middle East. From the time that the State was established until the Six Day War, Israel's economy was in a precarious state. Israel's military situation was no better. The IDF was spread thin over impossible borders. America had declared an embargo on weapons shipments to the Middle East. All the Arab armies in that era were supplied exclusively with Soviet arms, so that the American embargo was actually a U.S. death sentence for Israel. It seemed that Israel's days were numbered. The sad joke in that era was that the last Israeli to leave the country should please turn off the lights. In those difficult days Israel did not get even one bullet or one cent in aid from the Americans.

When did the American "aid" begin to pour into Israel? After Israel's "aggression" in 1967, when it conquered the Sinai, Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights and after its post-war economy began to boom. Then, when it was clear that Israel was stronger than its neighbors, the American "aid" began to flow.

It's strange, isn't it? America always pressures Israel to surrender its settlements to the enemy and to abandon the parts of the Land of Israel that it conquered. Why did it begin to send us "aid" when Israel took action completely opposed to U.S. policy?

The question becomes even keener when we continue to examine the graph of American aid over Israel's history. It turn out that the aid -- that was initiated, as stated above, after the Six Day War -- steadily increased until it peaked in the eighties. Then, at a very specific point in time, the level of aid began to decline until the point that we have reached today -- half the aid that Israel received when the allocations peaked. And what is that specific point in time? The Camp David Accords, when Israel destroyed its settlements in the Sinai and surrendered the entire peninsula to Egypt.

The question rises again, this time from the opposite angle: When Menachem Begin caved in and gave Jimmy Carter all that he demanded, Israel should have become America's favorite son. It could certainly have expected the aid that it had received up till then to continue at the same level. But once again, reality worked in just the opposite direction.

Clearly, then, American aid is not aid at all. It is a cynical strategic investment in a patently American interest. America had no economic or strategic interest in investing in a weak, pre-Six Day War Israel -- just as it had no economic or strategic interest in investing even one American bomb on the railroads that carried the Jews to Auschwitz.

In contrast, as soon as Israel became a regional power, it was in America's interest to invest in it. In the third stage, when Israel began to divest itself of its Six Day War achievements and to retreat to the pre-1967 border with Egypt, America transferred its economic and military support to the Arabs.
Why are these simple, history-proven facts ignored by the Israelis? I have often debated the subject of American aid with Israeli academicians, among them economic experts. The facts stated in this article are completely unknown to them. Why do Israelis insist on developing a sense of imaginary dependence on the U.S. and Europe, specifically at the point that Israel is both economically and militarily vigorous?

The answer to that question is not at all connected to Israel's military or economic capabilities. It is on a totally different plane.

Always Remember to Thank G-d

Feiglin with babyFive years ago, Moshe Feiglin's eldest daughter, Na'ama and her husband Yochai were saved by a miracle. They were driving from the settlement of Einav (in Northern Shomron) to Karnei Shomron when Arabs opened fire, riddling their car with bullets. Thanks to the mercy of G-d -- and the quick thinking of Yochai, a veteran of an IDF elite combat unit -- none of the bullets found their target. As a way of saying "thanks" to G-d, Na'ama and Yochai annually sponsor a special thanksgiving meal on the anniversary of that remarkable day.

This year, during that meal, Na'ama went into labor and delivered her second son shortly afterwards. The Brit Milah (circumcision ceremony) was held this Sunday. The baby was named "El-Ro'ee" after the famous verse in Tehillim 23; G-d is my shepherd (Hashem Ro'ee), I shall not lack."

During the festive meal after the Brit Milah, Moshe Feiglin spoke and said one word: "Thanks". He then explained that according to the teachings of the great Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, when a person is sad, G-d says, "You think you're sad now, just wait and I will give you something to really be sad about." When a person is happy, G-d says, "You think you're happy now, just wait and I will give you something to really be happy about" and when a person says "Thanks" so G-d says, "Just wait and I will truly give you something worth thanking Me for."  Moshe concluded that the day of El-Ro'ee's birth will forever be a holiday of thanksgiving for the Feiglin family.

May this baby grow and become a source of "nachas" for the entire family and may he follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and become a leader for the Jewish People -- making sure to say "thanks" to G-d, every step of the way.

Nasrallah Reminding Us Who Won (1 Shvat, 5768 -- Jan. 8, '08)

Two Katyusha rockets exploded last night in Israel's northern town, Shlomi. Moshe Feiglin commented as follows: It is interesting that these rockets were fired just prior to the publication of the Winograd Inquiry Committee's final conclusions on the Lebanon War. Nasrallah is making sure that we remember who won that war and who is still facing a threat. Israel has no ability to respond to the missiles being sent our way from Syria and Egypt, via the Hizbollah and Hamas."

If you are an Israeli citizen now is the time to sign up for the Likud. Be sure to also sign up family and friends. If you are already a member you may have children over 18 that have not yet signed up. For just a small investment (64 Israeli Shekels for a single membership / 96 Israeli Shekels for a couple), the new Likud member turns from just another insignificant protestor into a highly exclusive and influential voter. Yes, the Likud has severe faults. But it is the most effective ticket to revolutionizing Israel.

Torah Sparks: Bo

Moses PharoahIn this week's Torah portion, G-d commands Moses to face off against Pharaoh, the leader of the world's only superpower. Moses, whose humility is attested to by G-d Himself, stands before the Egyptian ruler and puts him firmly in his place. Today, when every newly elected Israeli Prime Minister scurries off to make promises of concessions to America, we clearly feel the lack of a Jewish leader whose pride in his nation stems from personal humility. We sorely lack a leader who has backbone in the face of the world's superpower -- backbone that only a leader who believes in G-d and His nation can proudly express to the entire world.
