War on Gaza? |
|
As calls for all-out war on Gaza increase, it is important to set things straight. As Moshe Feiglin explained this week in an interview on the Knesset channel of Israel TV (Hebrew), there is no reason for Israel to enter Gaza if it does not intend to stay there, expel its hostile elements, declare Israeli sovereignty and rebuild one hundred Gush Katifs.
It is unacceptable to send Israeli soldiers to almost certain death in the booby-trapped alleys of Jebalyah for no real purpose. It is not an option to send them to fight, equipped with a Christian ethical code that prefers their deaths over the deaths of hostile civilians. And worst of all, it is unthinkable to send them to give their lives to conquer the Gaza Strip from an arch-terrorist from the Hamas, and to then turn it over to a different arch terrorist from the Fatah, who, after a short break, will thank us by renewing the Kassam fire on Israel.
A war on Gaza now will suit Olmert well. After allowing the situation in the Negev to reach the boiling point, he will stage a war with wall-to-wall public and political support. The war will not solve the problem because it will not be fought to win and remain in Gaza. But there will be funerals, and that will create public pressure. Olmert will then diffuse the pressure by destroying settlements and throwing their residents into the streets. Soldiers will be killed, settlements will be destroyed and the Kassams and terror will steadily increase. But in the dust kicked up by all the turmoil, Olmert will have bought himself another two years in office.
If Manhigut Yehudit says "no" to war on Gaza, then what exactly do we propose?
We have proposed a bill in the Knesset that would mandate complete disengagement from Gaza. No, this is not the ideal option. The ideal option, as above, is to re-conquer Gaza, drive out all hostile elements and make it flourish with Jewish settlements. But as long as we do not have leadership that believes in our historic rights in the entire Land of Israel and as long as we do not have leadership that will initiate a war on Gaza to re-conquer and settle it, we must not endanger our soldiers for nothing.
The next best thing that we can do is to demand complete disengagement from Gaza. We must not supply them with anything. No bread, no electricity, no fuel, no gas and if it would be possible, no air, either. Any hostility from Gaza should be met with heavy artillery fire to force them to pull the missile launchers all the way into Gaza city and to turn all the launching territory into a sure-death zone. The longer the range of the missiles, the longer the range of the sure-death zone.
What if the world protests?
In the 41 years that have passed since the miraculous Six Day War, the State of Israel has done all in its power to convince the world that the Land of Israel belongs to its enemies. We have nobody to blame for that but ourselves. As long as Israel continues to justify its enemies, it is difficult to think about a return to national health. Complete disengagement from Gaza is the most that we can expect from Israel's current leaders. If Israel is convinced that this action is just, the rest of the world will be convinced as well and negative world opinion will dissipate.
It is important to join the residents of Sderot in their protest. But our message must be clear: We demand complete disengagement from Gaza. Not cynical sacrifice of more soldiers in a rerun of the recent Lebanon war.

We Need a Knock Out: By Michael Fuah |
|
Michael Fuah is the General Director of Manhigut Yehudit
Adar I, 5768 Feb., '08
Israel's abandonment of the residents of the Negev to Gaza terror is clear proof that Olmert has drawn no worthy conclusions from the Second Lebanon War. Instead of declaring war and acting to achieve a decisive victory, Olmert's government is once again treading water. Even worse, the Olmert government is actively assisting the abductors of Gilad Shalit and the Kassam terrorists. The electricity, food and a great deal of the materials used to produce Kassams come to Gaza straight from the State of Israel.
Talking heads warn that if Israel hermetically seals the check points to Gaza and cuts off its supply of electricity and water, Gaza will be faced with a humanitarian crisis. The fact that this warning is leveled at Israel means that Israel holds the tool to defeat the Hamas. But instead of using it, Olmert's government supplies and supports our enemies.
A photo-op at the hospital where Sderot's wounded are recuperating in which the Prime Minister would announce that as far as he is concerned, Gazans can drink water from the sea until Gilad Shalit is returned and all the explosives there neutralized, complemented by a public relations campaign explaining Israel's position, could place the responsibility for the situation in Gaza squarely on the shoulders of the Hamas. A photo of the Defense Minister at the power plant in Ashkelon after it has been struck by Kassams, turning off the power to Gaza while explaining that Israel will not provide electricity to those who shoot at the plant (that also supplies Gaza's electricity) would be more effective than hundreds of tanks. But Olmert's spin masters are too busy with their media fight against the bereaved families and the reserve soldiers. They have no time for trivialities like Sderot.
If it wanted to, the government could neutralize Supreme Court interference in the battle against Gaza by declaring war, which would abrogate the legal right of the Supreme Court to intervene. And Egyptian president Mubarak, still reeling from the Rafiah fiasco, would be afraid to so much as chirp if he would understand that any wrong move on his part would bring the responsibility for Gaza into his lap.
But Olmert is treading water, and the situation is steadily deteriorating. Olmert was one of the godfathers of the Expulsion from Gush Katif, which was designed to detach Israel from Gaza. He accepts no responsibility for the abysmal failure of his plan. But he is reluctant to re-enter Gaza, which would be a de facto admission of his error.
Nevertheless, it seems that Israel is headed for a major military excursion that will bring us deep into Gaza.
I have no opposition to conquering Gaza. On the contrary: In my opinion, Israel must repopulate all of Gaza with Jews. But that could not be farther from the thoughts of the two Ehuds heading Israel right now. So what we are about to experience is another pointless war in Gaza which will end with Israel's humiliating retreat. Many soldiers entering Gaza will doubtless be asking themselves what they are doing there and why they are endangering their lives. Responsible commanders will be asking if Israel's political leaders really want to win. And if they do, why are the orders so confused? Why does one hand send us to fight while the other supplies electricity, water and food to the enemy?
Israel can deal Gaza a knockout blow. Israel can win a decisive victory. But Olmert can't and that is why he should resign. Ehud Barak, Shas and the army and reserve soldiers are the factors that make it possible for him to continue to play with our lives.

"Any negotiations on Jerusalem will force us out of the government," Shas chairman Eli Yishai declared. In truth though, Jerusalem has always been on the negotiating table. From the time of the inception of the State, Israel began the process of abandoning Jerusalem. And when the Temple Mount was liberated in the miraculous Six Day War -- totally against the will of Israel's leaders at the time -- they immediately abandoned it.
Jerusalem is the Temple Mount and the Temple. All the rest is just the candy wrapper. When Israel unofficially surrendered the Temple Mount, it threw away the candy and was left with nothing more than the wrapper.
Now Israel's government seeks to make that surrender official. It is high time for Shas to leave the government.

| Winograd Report: Israel Must Compromise for Peace |
Page 48 of the Winograd Report on the Second Lebanon War sums up the entire basis of the committee's investigation. In black and white, without even a hint of apology, the report writes as follows: "For both political and moral reasons, Israel must strive for peace with its neighbors and make the compromises necessary to achieve it."
Israel has always avoided defining the purpose of its existence with positive reasons. It has always backed away from claiming that the goal of the Jewish State is to be the source of a universal, ethical contribution to the world. Israel has fled its Jewish identity, basing the justice of its existence strictly on the self defense claim. That is how we have been left with a pathetic national goal known as 'peace.'
No other nation in the world defines 'peace' as the purpose of its existence. Peace is the result of the fulfillment of goals. It can never be the goal itself. A nation that defines peace as its ultimate goal cannot exist for long.
Two summers ago, Israel's well-equipped and modern army faced a primitive army, not much bigger than a brigade. But the primitive force had a clear goal, while Israel's forces were fighting for peace. All they wanted was to get home in peace. All they wanted was to live in peace. Israel fought for peace -- and lost.
The Winograd Report does more than reflect the depth of the problem of establishing peace as a national goal. It also explains that we must make compromises for this peace. In other words, in the face of an enemy that seeks to destroy us, the report suggests that we compromise time and again. Obviously, when one side makes compromises and the other continues to fight unhindered, the end result is clear. So there is no need to read the hundreds of pages of the Winograd Report. Its final conclusions are clear on page 48.

We Told You So (5 Adar I, 5768 -- Feb. 11, '08) After Sderot residents blocked roads in Tel Aviv Monday, Moshe Feiglin, head of Manhigut Yehudit and former leader of the Zo Artzeinu protest movement commented: "The same leaders who fought against the Zo Artzeinu anti-retreat road-blocking protesters in 1995 now have to face citizens blocking roads in their struggle for Sderot and the Negev."
Feiglin: First Take Care of Gaza (6 Adar I, 5768 -- Feb. 12, '08) In response to Minister of Interior Meir Sheetrit's announcement that his ministry will plan the construction of a new Arab city in the Galilee, Moshe Feiglin commented: "After Sheetrit will make good on his proposal to wipe out sections of Gaza, he can begin to think seriously of building new cities for our enemies." |
