Rise Like a Lion

"Behold a people that rises up as a lioness, and as a lion he lifts himself up; he shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain." (Numbers 23:24)

How removed the passage from this week's Torah portion of Balak seems from our current reality. Every routine rocket on Sderot makes the blood of all the Jews - wherever they are - meaningless. Every bulldozer or truck in the country has turned into a potential weapon of death and destruction.

Israel is desperate to be loved by the nations. But much to our chagrin, the nations only love dead Jews. So without a second thought, Israel's government summarily whisks every visiting foreign dignitary from the airport straight to the holocaust memorial museum, Yad Vashem. Maybe if we remind them just how dead we are, they will give us a bit of love?

The Arabs, on the other hand, aren't looking for love. They demand respect and the fear of the nations. So much so that when the BBC aired the footage of the Jew shooting the Arab bulldozer terrorist in the head, the Arabs complained. It is degrading to show an Arab being eliminated like a flea. Naturally, the BBC apologized for allowing the reality of a Jew shooting an Arab to appear on the screen and removed the offensive footage.

The police officer who was incapable of shooting the terrorist on the bulldozer is the epitome of the modern-day Samson; his long locks shorn and his eyes blinded. The pre-Expulsion brainwashing perpetrated by Israel's government against all of its armed forces has rendered our security forces incapable of fighting anyone but settlers.

I have complete faith that Israel will rise up as a lion. But for that to happen, we need new leadership - leadership that doesn't desperately seek the love of the nations and is not concerned with finding favor in the eyes of the 'enlightened' elite. We need the type of leadership displayed by the brave off-duty soldier who killed the terrorist. That is our only hope.

There is only one movement today that works realistically toward the goal of Jewish leadership for Israel. That movement is Manhigut Yehudit. How much have you personally done to create leadership that will not allow Jewish blood to be spilled like water? The path has already been paved, the tools are ready and all that is left is for you to use them to save yourselves, your families and your country.

The lull before the next elections is vitally important. Now is the time to help Manhigut Yehudit.

Shabbat Shalom,

Moshe Feiglin

David, Goliath and the Bulldozer: By Moshe Feiglin

Rosh Chodesh Tamuz, 5768
July 4, '08

Translated from Moshe Feiglin's article on NRG

The off duty soldier who killed the terrorist on the bulldozer reminds me of the Biblical David. Not only because he stormed the Goliath bulldozer with a pistol borrowed from a policeman standing by. Much more than that. The soldier reminds me of David, who although rejected and hated by his brothers, eventually saves them.

When the prophet Samuel comes to Jesse's home to find the divinely ordained king and redeemer of Israel, Jesse presents all his sons to the prophet. All of them - except David. As far as Jesse is concerned, David is not a candidate. Only when Samuel pointedly asks if there are any more sons does Jesse reluctantly bring David before the prophet, who immediately designates him as the future king of Israel.

The hero of the bulldozer attack is the same kind of David. He belongs to the sector that Israel's media and elites love to hate. He is a yeshiva student at the settlement of Yitzhar - possibly the most loathed of all the settlements. The Torah by which Yitzhar lives is not subordinate to any establishment. It is the Torah of direct connection to the Land of Israel. It is the Torah of love for truth and for the nation of Israel. It is the Torah of Jewish labor in agriculture and construction. It is Torah without adjustments for those who would prefer a less demanding life. That is why Yitzhar is hated and feared.

When the bulldozers destroyed the homes of Gush Katif - after all, that is what bulldozers do nowadays - nobody stopped them. Most of today's right-wing leaders are subservient to the establishment. Their Torah is good for the study halls, where G-d rules. But outside the study halls they serve the State, whose directives take precedence over those of the Master of the universe. When that happens, the homes of Gush Katif collapse like a house of cards in the path of the bulldozer - Sharon.

Three years pass and a bulldozer just like the kind that destroyed Gush Katif and Amona, just like the kind used to destroy the outposts of Yitzhar - forges a mad path of death and destruction in the midst of Jerusalem. All the brave riot police from Amona, all the courageous police who knew how to tear apart the faces of the protesters against the Expulsion - look on helplessly as the Goliath tractor destroys lives on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem. Two policemen actually do climb up on the tractor. One tries to pull the terrorist's leg off the gas pedal and the other tries to grab the steering wheel. But shoot him? They can't do it.

The death and destruction would have continued if not for our David - the "enemy of the State" who had fought the Expulsion from the rooftop in Kfar Darom. Our David didn't have a gun. He had every reason to stand off to the side like all the police standing frozen at the entrance to the police station as the bulldozer passed them by. But just like the Biblical David with the slingshot, our David is motivated by the spirit of G-d. The fact that he does not have a gun does not deter him. He'll find a gun. And so he runs to the Goliath bulldozer and with pure, Jewish spiritual health puts three bullets into the terrorist's head. Afterwards, he disappears. The kingdom of Saul has not yet finished its process of collapse.

"And G-d said: 'Arise, anoint him; for this is he.' Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren; and the spirit of G-d came mightily upon David from that day forward. Now the spirit of G-d had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from G-d terrified him." (Samuel 16:12-14)

Today, we all understand what part of society will save us. We all understand who enjoys the healthy spirit of G-d and who is terrified by a mentality of self-hatred and defeatism. Deep inside, we all know where to find our modern day David. It may take some time. We have not seen the end of the tragic struggles between the collapsing kingdom of Saul and the ascending kingdom of David. But the Davids are our only chance to survive. And in the end, they will have no choice but to lead.

18 Years and Still Smiling: By Shmuel Sackett

Tamuz, 5768
July, '08

Today is July 4th which marks my 18th year Aliyah anniversary... and I am still smiling!

I still break my teeth speaking Hebrew, have problems reading the Yediot Aharonot newspaper (not such a loss) and can't figure out why I work on Sunday but - I am still smiling!

I pay close to $9.00 a gallon for gas (so stop complaining about gas prices in the USA), check every Pesach product 12 times for Kitniyot and will be sending my kids to camp for a grand total of two weeks (Israeli camps stop after two weeks - what the heck is that all about??) but - I am still smiling!

I go to army reserves every year even though they don't let me shoot anybody, pay a ridiculous TV tax even though I don't have a TV and eat about 15 sufganiyot on Chanukah even though 14 of them never have jelly but - I am still smiling!

Since I am one of those 'crazy' people who had the nerve to oppose the Oslo 'Peace Process' (how dare I do such a thing???) I have had the honor of being beaten by Israeli riot policemen, been arrested 10 times, convicted of sedition, sentenced to 12 months in prison and fired from my job by Shulamit Aloni (remember her?) yet, through all of it - I am still smiling!

Of course I do not smile when I think of this week's terror attack by a Jerusalem Arab. I also do not smile when I remember my dear friends Binyamin and Talia Kahane with whom I ate lunch four days before their tragic murder by terrorists who received guns from Shimon Peres. I do not smile when I think of my close friend Hillel Lieberman who I used to dovin with in Kever Yosef and talk with at length about the holy city of Shechem. Furthermore, I do not smile at the fact that at Hillel's funeral, I was shot at by Arabs. Only a miracle guided those bullets away from my car. And finally, I do not smile at the saddest day of my entire Aliyah - just 4 months after I arrived here - when I joined 150,000 Jews in burying my holy and amazing Rebbe, HaRav Meir Kahane ztz"l. On that sad day I waited in line to say some prayers by his newly dug grave and vowed to do whatever I could to bring his dream of Israel as a strong and proud Jewish State to fruition. Thank G-d, I have kept that promise as I work, night and day, to bring new leadership to this country.

And so, even though not all of the 6,570 days have been rosy, I am still smiling because I know that in the end we will emerge victorious. Good will defeat evil and those who work to sanctify G-d's Name will beat those who desecrate it. New leaders beaming with Jewish pride will soon lead Israel and the once mighty IDF will become the army it should be.

The first 18 years are now over and I thank G-d for being with me every step of the way. My wife gave birth to two beautiful babies here in Israel and they joined our four American imports, thank G-d. We built a house, walked two children down to their chuppa and had our son's bar mitzvah catered by Kentucky Fried Chicken (try that in the States!!)

What will the next 18 years bring? I pray that G-d will guide me, my family and all of Klal Yisrael in doing what needs to be done to end the pain and suffering of His people. I beg G-d to help us sanctify His great and holy Name and hope that the shedding of Jewish blood is over forever. By the time I write my article for my 36th anniversary I pray that the Bet Ha'Mikdash will have been built and that all our brothers and sisters - from the four corners of the earth - returned to our Promised Land.

And I pray that I will still be smiling…
