Useful Terms
Aliyah:
Literally, "ascent," aliyah
means immigration of Jews to Israel.
The Likud Central Committee:
The "power behind the throne" of
the Likud is undoubtedly the 2,800 member Central Committee. This body
serves several purposes, such as selection of the Knesset list on behalf
of the Likud and deciding on party platform and setting the direction of
the party. Furthermore, it is the only system of "checks and
balances" for Likud Knesset members.
The vote for the Central Committee is done by
district elections. Each chapter of Likud sends a specific number of
delegates to the Central Committee. For example, the Jerusalem branch
sends 169 delegates, Haifa sends 83, Yesha and the Golan (collectively)
send 107, Petach Tikva 70, etc. Today, Manhigut Yehudit controls 135
delegates. It is our goal to control 400 delegates in the next Central
Committee elections.
Oslo Accords:
The accords signed between Israel and the
PLO in which Israel surrendered cities and additional territory to the
terror organization. The Oslo Accords triggered the phenomenon of suicide
bombings and increased acts of terror, leading to the deaths of well over
1,000 Israelis.
Mashiach
([or spelled Moshiach] "Anointed One," or "Messiah"):
Mashiach, the Anointed One, the Great Peacemaker,
and the Ultimate Leader, is a human being, the prophesied descendant of
King David--Mashiach ben Dovid--who thanks to his leadership ability and
knowledge of Torah, will gather the exiled Jewish People and bring them
all back to Israel, will reinstate the Torah-ordained monarchy (which he
will head), rebuild the Holy Temple, inspire the whole world to believe in
one God, and usher in an era of all human beings living together in peace
and brotherhood.
This series of events (collectively called
"the Redemption") will usher in an era of eternal, universal
peace and true knowledge of God, called "the messianic era."
There is also a prophesied messianic figure called Mashiach ben Yoseph,
who will rectify certain aspects of reality in preparation for the advent
of Mashiach ben Dovid.

return to a state of oneness with, and commitment to G-d and His Torah.
Zionist Movement:
