Moshe Feiglin on Trump: If Israel Will be for Israel, All Will be Good

The following is the translated transcript of a radio interview with Moshe Feiglin on Israel National News, Wednesday, March 16:

Why do you say that we have to be careful of Trump?

I really think that discussing Trump in Israel is out of place. When Israel is for itself, the U.S. will be for Israel. If we continue to work against ourselves, the U.S. will follow suit. As Ben Gurion said, “It doesn’t matter what the non-Jews say, but what the Jews do. Regarding the U.S., it has already been proven that when Israel does what is good for her and vice versa, America stands beside us. In summary, it really does not matter who will be the president there. Much more important is who will be the prime minister here.

Nevertheless, Trump is the greatest show in town. But if G-d forbid, this man will be the president of the US, the immediate danger to Israel and the US will be greater. Trump reminds me too much of Ariel Sharon. He is a person without a clear road map. He is not motivated by an ideology that he tries to implement despite counter pressure. On the contrary, he is a bulldozer, like Sharon. A bulldozer without a driver will ultimately break into the weakest point. Time and again in Israel we have mostly rightist governments with no clear road map. They toe the line of leftist ideology. Who knows what is the difference between the two-state solution of Netanyahu and of Herzog? The Israeli Right does not have a road map or an alternative to the Left’s worldview. In this situation it is clear that if Donald Trump will be the president of the U.S., it will be easiest to direct the bulldozer in the direction of the Israelis. I would not like to see such a person in the White House.

Do you think that Clinton, who will perpetuate Obama’s policies, would be preferable to Trump?

First of all, I do not support Hillary Clinton. She is truly not my cup of tea. Not she, not her husband and not what the American Left expresses. But we know from our Israeli experience that rightist governments in Israel always cause more damage than leftist governments. Most of the destructions of settlements and expulsions of Jews; Gush Katif, Yamit, 98% of the city of Hebron, the Wye Accords, the Temple Mount that looks like a branch of ISIS under the rule of the Right, the torture of minors and more were perpetrated by rightist governments. If every two hours and 33 minutes on average (as is currently taking place) there would be an attempt on a Jewish life, and every two or three days, a murder actually would take place – and a leftist government would be in power, you and I and the entire Right would be out protesting in the streets. We have gotten used to it only because the Right is in power. There is no Opposition

The same is true for the U.S.. I do not want to see a president who comes from the Right side of the political map, a man who has no restraint and whom nobody who will try to stop – a bulldozer with no driver.

This is highly reminiscent of the longing of the Israeli Right for Ariel Sharon prior to the Expulsion from Gush Katif. There were a few individuals who warned that Sharon was dangerous. And they were absolutely right. We always get the most smarting smack in the face from those who we elected with our votes and efforts and to whom we ran without really analyzing if they propose a true alternative to the path of the Left.

So if you negate both Trump and Clinton, who could be good for Israel?

Only we can be good for ourselves. You will never hear me recommend a candidate to an American. Sometimes people with US citizenship ask me for whom to vote. I know American citizens who live here in Israel who do not vote in the US elections. That is more logical. If you are here, why vote in the elections there? But to those who ask, I say, “If you are exercising your right to vote as an American, then think like an American. Vote for the candidate who you think is good for America, not for Israel. If Israel will be for Israel, all will be good.
